I'm struggling to pay, what are my options?

An overview of the help available, from payment plans to social tariffs and independent debt advice.

If you're finding it hard to pay your bill, please get in touch with us as soon as you can. We'd much rather work with you to find a solution than see your account fall further behind. There's no judgement here, and the earlier you let us know, the more options you'll have.

What we can do

Depending on your circumstances, we may be able to:

  • Agree a short extension on your payment date

  • Set up a payment plan that spreads what you owe over a longer period

  • Add you to our Priority Services Register if you rely on your service for medical or care reasons

  • Refer you to our Customer Vulnerabilities Team for additional support

  • Look at whether you're eligible for a social tariff, which can reduce your monthly bill significantly if you're on Universal Credit or other qualifying benefits

To talk through your options, please contact our Credit Control Team at [email protected] or call us on 0800 054 8330.

Free, independent debt advice

If you'd like impartial advice before talking to us, the following organisations can help, free of charge:

  • Citizens Advice Scotland (CAS): 0800 028 1456 or www.cas.org.uk

  • StepChange Debt Charity: 0800 138 1111 or www.stepchange.org

  • Advice Direct Scotland: 0808 800 9060

Help with multiple debts

If you're struggling with debts to several different organisations, you may be eligible for protection under the Debt Arrangement Scheme (DAS), Scotland's statutory debt management scheme. DAS includes a 6 month moratorium on diligence, which pauses creditor enforcement action while you seek advice and put a plan in place.

More information is available at www.dasscotland.gov.uk.
